1:30 PM - 4:00 PM: Maze-O starts at “The Slot” (1.2 km hike from the Competition Center). NO PARKING
at “The Slot” parking area.
5:30 PM: Pot-luck Social and BBQ at the Competition Center

Sunday Afternoon: Control pick-up and sight-seeing, hiking and exploring the canyons and geologic
features, including Agua Caliente Hot Springs, Palm Canyon Oasis, Split Mountain and the more than 70
metal sculptures of prehistoric residents of the area located in and around the town of Borrego Springs.
Monday, January 16:
• 7:30 AM – 8:15 AM: Registration for the “Borrego” and “Lamb”
• 8:30 AM: Mass start for the “Borrego” and “Lamb”
• 12:00 PM: “Borrego” and “Lamb” courses close
Dry camping near the competition center: $5.00 per car (Bring your own water). There are improved campgrounds at Ocotillo Wells (8 miles E) and at Palm Canyon/Borrego Springs Ranger Station (11 miles W).
Saturday, 5:30 PM: $5.00 per person or bring food or drink for 4-6. Hamburgers and hotdogs will be served.
Registration, packet pick-up, camping, finishes for days of the B-Meet and the “Borrego” and “Lamb”,
E-punch download, results, first aid tent and radio command center will be
located on the saddle at the junction of Buttes Pass Road and Goat Trail, 1.4 miles(2.2 km) north from Highway 78.
ANZA-BORREGO DESERT STATE PARK
Park on the side of the road and within one car width of the road. Do not trample vegetation or drive over geological formations.
Fires built on the ground are NOT permitted. Bring a metal container to hold your fire. Pack out all ashes. Gathering fuel is prohibited.
Take your trash home with you. Pack it in . . . pack it out.
Quiet hours are from 10:00 PM - 6:00 AM If you are running a generator, keep it off from 8:00 PM -10:00 AM .
Dogs must be on a 6-foot leash and are allowed only in the developed campgrounds and on dirt roads. Dogs
are not allowed on trails or in wilderness areas. No dogs on the orienteering courses.
Vehicles must remain on established roads.
Natural & cultural features are protected and may not be removed or disturbed.
Bring your own water. Portable toilets and a solar shower will be available near the Competition Center.
From the West take Highway 78 through Julian and go 10.5 miles past the junction with S-3 (Yaqui Pass
Road) and 1.5 miles past the junction of Highway 78 with Borrego Springs Road. Look for the brown Buttes
Pass and Orienteering signs on the left. Turn off Highway 78 onto the dirt Buttes Pass Road and go 1.6 km
(one mile) to the junction and go right 0.7 km (0.4 mi.) to the camping area and Competition Center on the
broad saddle. From the East take Highway 78 about 7 miles past Ocotillo Wells and look for the Buttes Pass
and Orienteering signs on the right and follow Buttes Pass Road as described above.
Park in designated areas only. All parking areas will be marked/flagged. There will be 60 parking spots
within 0.5 miles of the Competition Center. An additional 20 parking spots will be available just south of
Highway 78 about 1.4 miles from the Competition Center. No parking at “The Slot”. Parking is VERY LIMITED
so carpooling is highly encouraged! All available parking is accessible by 2WD vehicles. We will have
parking personnel to direct you to the appropriate spots. Tickets will be issued for parking violations (see Park rules above) and violations will jeopardize future orienteering use in the State Park. Beware of sandy areas
where you probably will get stuck. If you do get stuck, do not let your wheels spin. Ask staff for assistance.

Mass start “Goat” style Long-O events with the Borrego about 15 km and Lamb about 7 km
MODEL EVENT (Friday 13 January, 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM):
Non-timed event to get acquainted with the map and terrain. Individuals or groups: $2.00 map charge
Located in the town of Borrego Springs about 11 miles west of the event area.

Every competitor must carry a whistle on the course.
In the event of an emergency, the signal is 3 blasts on the whistle. Do not blow your whistle except in an emergency situation.
Competitors who hear an emergency signal or see someone in need are required to stop and provide assistance.
Volunteer paramedics will be staffing the first aid tent. Radio communications personnel will be patrolling the area
in case anyone needs assistance while on the course.
