UCSD

Sunday, May 7th, 10:30am

Pick a Classic or Score format, then start navigating!

In conjunction with the newly-formed UCSD Orienteering Club, we invite you to a morning of on-campus competive navigation. The updated map spans the busy pathways of the campus core, along with the remote forests nearby. We will be offering two courses:
Classic: A traditional point-to-point course with 12 controls and an optimal (straight-line) distance of 5.8km.
Score: A choose-your-own-route course with 20 potential controls. How many can you find in 60 minutes? All controls are worth 1 point on both courses. There is a penalty of 1 point for every minute (or part of a minute) after the maximum allowed time.
Both courses share some controls and are beginner-friendly in difficulty. We do recommend the Score format for newbies, as it allows you to tailor the distance and skip anything tricky.
Preregistration required by Friday, May 6th at 10pm. No late or onsite registration available.
Beginner's clinics will be offered. Electronic punches and compasses are available for all registered competitors to borrow at no charge.
We are unable to charge money for events on campus, so we are asking for a suggested donation equal to our normal modest race fees.
Please note, due to these same rules, we will start this event 30 minutes later than usua at 10:30am. No early starts will be offered. Starts close at 11:30am and the course closes at 12:30pm.

See you on campus!

Event Location

The start will be on Library Walk West which is across from the Price Center. Please see satellite image below.

Please considering taking the MTS Trolley, which connects campus with most of San Diego. An extensive network of bike paths connect UCSD with La Jolla and downtown.

If driving, we recommend people park in the Hopkins parking structure nearby. There is visitor parking on the top floor of the structure. It is free for the first hour and $2/hr after.
